Safety cameras will be installed on the A120 in the new year.

Moves are being finalised to put cameras in several locations along dangerous spots in the road.

The idea was first introduced almost a year ago when the Gazette's sister paper, the Harwich Standard, wrote to the Essex Safety Camera Partnership to highlight the high number of accidents along the carriageway.

Since then the process has stalled but is now only one step away from being completed.

Kelly Fairweather, safety camera liaison officer, said: "They are still going ahead. We are waiting for some signs from the Highways Agency. Once that is in place, we can start enforcement."

Plans put forward in February identified eight locations. They included:

Two at Ramsey near the junction of Wash Corner

Two on the A120 by Goose Green near Wix

A further four between Horsley Cross and Little Bentley.
