Buss bosses failed to turn up for a meeting with Colchester Council's transport supremo, the Gazette can reveal.
Opposition councillors last night called on Richard Gower, portfolio holder for planning and transport, to hold talks with bus firm Network Colchester over its controversial decision to alter routes and timetables.
But Mr Gower revealed he had already attempted to get together with senior staff.
He said: "I trudged down to the depot in Magdalen Street yesterday to find my appointment had been cancelled without warning."
Network Colchester brought in changes and axed one service earlier this year as a cost-cutting measure, after taking over Arriva's operation in the town.
The move provoked the anger of travellers who found buses no longer passed near their homes. As the company is privately owned and run, there was little politicians could do to intervene.
But at last night's meeting, Julie Young (Lab, St Andrew's) said the authority owed it to the public to press for a solution.
