The Chelmsford Spectacular has been axed.
Having fun - but the Chelmsford Spectacular was "decreasing in popularity" according to one councillor. (37991-7)
The music festival has been given the chop for being outdated and losing money.
Chelmsford Council's cabinet confirmed last night that the summer event will not take place next year.
The Spectacular, which attracted thousands of music fans to the town every August bank holiday weekend for the last 15 years, is 'decreasing in popularity' and 'outdated', according to councillor Christopher Kingsley, cabinet member for arts and entertainment.
The 2004 event, which is funded by Chelmsford Council, made a £21,000 loss, with the deficit covered by the £85,000 Spectacular reserve.
