Southend United manager Steve Tilson is backing young Blues winger James Lawson to succeed at Roots Hall.
The Basildon-based 17-year-old, who can also play up front, has impressed in both the Shrimpers youth and reserve sides so far this season and was also an unused subsitute for the first team against Grimsby Town a fortnight ago in the 1-1 draw at Roots Hall.
"James is a very talented player," confirmed Seasiders chief Steve Tilson.
"He has done well this season and definitely has the ability to succeed here.
"He's still very young and he's still over a year away from becoming a professional so there is a lot of hard work for him to do.
"He needs to keep plugging away and show the right attitude because although he undoubtedly has the skills that isn't always enough."
