A fatal road traffic accident near Maldon has claimed the 96th life on Essex roads this year.
A 25-year-old man died after his blue Ford Escort vehicle was involved in a collision with a black Mercedes carrying four women.
The accident happened at about 12.30pm yesterday on Mundon Road outside Hook Farm Workshops, about a mile from the Limebrook Way roundabout in Maldon.
Four women who were in the Mercedes were taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.
These included a 58-year-old woman who was airlifted to Broomfield with a fractured right arm, a dislocated shoulder, and injuries to her head and chest.
A 68-year-old Chelmsford woman suffered a broken left arm. Two women from Woodham Mortimer, aged 58 and 59, suffered seatbelt injuries.
