The Mercury Theatre in Colchester is going transatlantic.
It was announced this week that the company cast for The Pull of Negative Gravity will be going across to New York to perform the play in the Brits Off Broadway Festival.
The play, written by Colchester playwright Jonathan Lichtenstein, deals with the after effects war has on one soldier and his family and won a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival this year following a successful run at the Traverse Theatre.
It was during the festival that the New York producers saw the play and decided it was perfect for their festival due to take place at the 59E59 theater next May.
Dee Evans, chief executive of the Colchester theatre, said: "They saw it at Edinburgh and said it was the best thing they saw there.
"We are so excited about it. Going to New York is a wonderful opportunity to develop the company and the work that we do here."
