A village church group has been thwarted in getting its own church.
The Friends of the Great Notley Church had its planning application for a new church deferred by the Braintree area committee last night.
It decided against the plan on the grounds of design and fitting in with the locality.
The Friends of the Great Notley Church has been fundraising for a number of years to get the church built and currently holds its services in the community centre in Great Notley.
If a new plan is passed, it will encourage all denominations of faith to use it. It will also play host to a number of functions, such as weddings and playgroups for children.
