Prime minister Tony Blair has praised the efforts of two people helping to improve services in Tendring.
Clacton Hospital nurse Jacqui Denniss and the headteacher of Clacton's Colbayn's High School Nick Pavitt were invited to a special reception at 10 Downing Street.
The pair went to London at the request of Harwich MP Ivan Henderson after their help with community regeneration.
And both say the experience was a huge "privilege", which saw them chat to Mr Blair and other senior ministers.
Mr Pavitt helped to set up the Education Action Zone (EAZ) which saw £5 million pumped into education in Clacton and Harwich.
Mrs Denniss, unit manager at the hospital's Jubilee Clinical Assessment unit, was representing Tendring Primary Care Trust and its efforts towards improving health in the district.
