Southend boats have been landing a few codling, along with whiting and some good dabs.
There are also Thornback catches to be had for anglers who target this species. Codling, whiting and dabs are being taken by Wallasea vessels.
Highlight of the week on Southend Pier was a 6lb 2.5oz cod, which was reeled in from the extension on a lugworm and squid bait by local fisherman Gary Lloyd.
There have been plenty of herring taken on lures from the east bay. Dabs, pouting, school bass and whiting are making up bags.
The pier stem has been good for a few flounder.
Southend beaches have also been attracting flounder, along with school bass and small whiting.
Rockling and whiting are the most common at Fambridge.
Whiting again, flounder and smelt are being caught at Stanford-le-Hope, with East Tilbury and Gravesend offering the best chance of a codling.
