Warrior Square and Victoria Avenue in Southend have been suggested as alternative sights for a new supercasino to save views across the Thames estuary.
The deputy leader of Southend Council's Labour group Stephen George attacked plans to turn Southend seafront into a gambling mecca as "to high a price to pay".
The Kursaal Ward councillor's comments come after leisure giant MGM Mirage announced plans to build a £130million casino, hotel and conference centre on the site of Westcliff Casino.
The plan includes three blocks of 171 apartments and a 100m Gyrotower.
Mr George said: "I believe that there are plenty of alternative sites in our town which Southend Council could encourage casino companies to develop.
"For example there is Warrior Square and the large area of land around the swimming pool used as a car park. What about a new hotel and conference centre with a multi-storey car park and a new swimming pool there."
Another of Mr George's suggestions was to utilise the vacant buildings in Victoria Avenue as another alternative casino site that would not blot the seafront view.
