Europe's first coastal and marine regional park has been launched, with Essex at its heart
Local authorities with coastlines on the southern North Sea have banded together to celebrate the cultural and natural diversity of the region.
The area covers parts of England, France, Belgium and Holland, including Colchester, Maldon and Essex County Council areas.
The park, known as the Sail Espace Regional, is seen as a key element in the long-term sustainable development of the southern North Sea, and in promoting the area as an attractive place to live, work and visit.
It has been set up by the Sail Partnership of 14 authorities in the four European countries.
