Residents in Witham are again kicking up a stink over the aroma emanating from the town's sewage works.
In 2003, Anglian Water spent £200,000 modernising odour control equipment at the Blackwater Lane works
At the time, many people were expressing concerns over whether the site was capable of handling the increasing volume of sewage from Witham's growing population.
Following the remedial work, the flood of complaints from nearby residents over the pong slowed to a trickle.
But this week, a Witham councillor said he was again being deluged with complaints from whiff-weary residents.
Michael Lager (Con, Witham Chipping Hill and Central) said: "We've got a problem with the smells coming from the sewage works.
"I've had reports that the other day it was really quite unbearable. It's an ongoing thing and really they should get it sorted."
An Anglian Water spokesman said the company was continuing to monitor the site but could find no evidence of an increased odour problem or potential causes of one.
