Part of the heart of Maldon will be closed in a matter of weeks.

The next phase of the High Street makeover is due to start on January 5. The stretch of road between West Square and Silver Street will be shut for up to ten weeks, leaving traffic to find alternative routes until the middle of March.

This phase of Essex County Council's Maldon town improvement scheme involves installing new, high-quality paving slabs and raising kerbs where possible.

Due to the narrowness of the road between the police station and the Blue Boar Hotel, highways chiefs decided a full road closure is necessary to safeguard workers, pedestrians and shopkeepers.
