Braintree looks set to get a new £1.5 million bus station.
The town's bus park, in Victoria Street, has not been used as the base for services operating in the town since bus services were deregulated in 1985
Instead most services, those operated by First, have used the commercial operator's depot in nearby Fairfield Road.
But now First is selling off the site for development and Braintree Council is looking at options for its replacement.
A feasibility study, to be presented to the council's Braintree area committee on Tuesday recommends that councillors select the Victoria Street bus park as the preferred option.
The redevelopment there would involve the creation of a new island layout of bus platforms with shelters, waiting facilities and better disabled access.
