GRAYS' run of 12 straight wins came to an end at Eastbourne Borough on Saturday but manager Mark Stimson is probably satisfied with the 2-2 draw at a side that had won eight out of its 11 previous home matches.
Grays had led thanks to Steve West's 18th minute goal but found themselves trailing by half time.
And they left it late to get back on level terms, Vill Powell's equaliser coming with just two minutes remaining.
Despite a late revival, injury and suspension-hit Thurrock suffered a surprise defeat at home to Sutton United.
Goals in each half from Gray and Haycroft had given Sutton the lead before Glenn Poole betted to start the Thurrock revival that unfortunately failed to bring about an equaliser.
Promotion-chasing Southern League Division One East East Thurrock United suffered another set-back with a 1-1 home draw against Waltham Forest.
Forest had knocked the Rocks out of the Essex Senior Cup in midweek but when Vinnie John put East Thurrock ahead on 15 minutes it looked like revenge was on the cards.
However Kanyuku popped up with a last minute equaliser for the visitors in the fifth meeting of the sides this season. Rocks won through in the FA Trophy after a replay and at Walthamstow in the league so this final draw will be all the more disappointing as a gap begins to open up between Rocks and the clubs above them.
At the other of the table an even bigger gap is leaving Tilbury adrift at the bottom. They lost again on Saturday, 2-0 at home to Beaconsfield and had top scorer Colin Wall sent off.
Aveley also suffered at the weekend, going down 4-0 at Uxbridge.
