A woman has pedalled for pounds to help a vandal-struck church.

Julie McNair said she was shocked when St Paul's Church in Parkeston was attacked by people throwing stones. Vandals have smashed special decorative windows at the church on several occasions causing hundreds of pounds of damage.

It left churchwardens and members down-hearted because the repeated attacks also happened shortly after repairs were completed.

Despite not being a church member, Mrs McNair, 48, decided to raise money for the cause by doing a sponsored bike ride - on an exercise bike at Dovercourt Swimming Pool's gym.

Mrs McNair cycled 50km over 75 minutes and had help to raise the cash by staff at the swimming pool. Mr Greenfield said window repair costs were more than £500.
