Emmaus Colchester runs a second hand warehouse at the Cowdray Centre to supply furniture and raise funds for the homeless
But last week intruders smashed their way into the shop overnight, causing damage to the door but escaping with just £20 cash.
Project director Lesley Corner said the cost, expected to be more than £400, would have been used to help people.
Mrs Corner said: "It's disappointing that people could think of robbing a charity. We're doing our best to serve a need."
