Direct action has been taken on abandoned cars left on Clacton's Pier Avenue.
Crushed - abandoned cars are disposed of once and for all
Pier Avenue was closed to traffic last Wednesday as a crusher was brought in to get rid of the nuisance cars once and for all.
Operation Cubit is the name of the clampdown and involves Tendring Council and the police working in partnership with the DVLA to remove and get rid of the problem.
John Moore, enforcement manager at the DVLA, said the majority of vehicles cleared during the operation would meet their fate in the crusher.
Harry Shearing, Tendring Council's portfolio holder for technical services, said he welcomed the chance to curb any unsightly and untaxed vehicles dumped at the roadside in the district.
During Operation Cubit, a dedicated team of police and police community support officers will be seizing vehicles which have no insurance, are abandoned or illegally for sale on the public highway.
