Basildon's men contested the Finals of the NAPGC competitions and emerged triumphant.
Their total of 202 points gave them a winning margin of five points over Hounslow.
This means that Basildon have the best record in the competition, winning seven times since its inception in 1970.
A total of 133 teams contested the Clapham Common Shield and Web Ellis Cup. After various local rounds, area and zone finals the four zone winners contested the final at the Shropshire Golf Club.
Although the weather conditions were pretty poor the new towners played well with the following scores: S Holding and P Richens (28 points), A Nagle and S Watson (33), R Short and J Harrison (34), D Lloyd and R Percival (35), L Bullard and M Digby (36), P Mayor and G Eastman (36).
