Billericay train station is set for a £5,000 makeover.

The proposed changes would see the taxi rank relocated and a new road built to allow commuters easier access to the station car park.

The existing bus stops outside the station will also be moved, while renovations to the station's footbridge would be completed.

Train operators One are in discussions with Essex County Council, Basildon Council, Network Rail, taxi companies and Firstbus over the proposals, which they hope to implement in the next few months.

The news comes after the station itself was inspected by the train travellers' group the Rail Passengers Committee (RPC).

A spokesman for One said: "These proposals have been sent to Essex County Council for approval and also to try and secure the funding to put these improvements in place.

"It is early days but we would like to see these improvements made in the future."
