Angry protesters are claiming partial victory in their fight to halt more low-risk security homes in their village.

More than 100 placard-carrying campaigners from Kirby gave councillors a noisy reception last night in the bitter row.

Tendring planning officers had recommended the go-ahead for plans to develop the homes for younger residents with learning difficulties and mental health needs.

But it was announced the plans were to be deferred for further investigation in the light of fresh concerns both from councillors and the public.
