Jamie Cade was on the scoresheet six times as Colchester United Reserves routed Crawley Town Reserves 9-0 in the Pontin's Combination League.
Cade hit a hat-trick by half-time as the U's took full advantage of the dismissal of Crawley's Fiston Manuella for a second yellow card at Layer Road yesterday.
It was with this comfortable lead that goalkeeper Dean Gerken was substituted for youth-team stopper Mark Cousins.
First-choice keeper Aidan Davison is suffering from a groin strain after Saturday's 2-1 home win over Port Vale in Coca-Cola League One.
And he will be facing a late fitness test ahead of Saturday's match at Walsall.
Gerken was swapped with Cousins to keep the reserve keeper fresh if he is required to start in place of Davison.
