Harwich MP Ivan Henderson has joined the row over a bid to develop low risk security homes for residents with learning difficulties and mental health needs.
Planning officers are recommending the proposal for a second home at Kirby-le-Soken should be given the go-ahead by Tendring district councillors today - despite more than 1,000 protests.
Following a recent face-to-face meeting with representatives, Mr Henderson backed calls for the project to be withdrawn.
He said: "Because of the intensity of feeling which has been allowed to develop, it would not be possible for the proposed development at Ducks Halt in Walton Road to integrate with the community, a very important aspect for both staff and residents."
Campaigners are hoping the councillors on the development control committee will overturn the recommendation
