Goalkeeper Aidan Davison is prepared to play through the pain barrier if it means helping Colchester United.
However, the 36-year-old knows that if he is going to be a hindrance he will not be badgering U's boss Phil Parkinson.
Davison took painkillers to combat an Achilles problem before Saturday's 2-1 win over Port Vale at Layer Road in Coca-Cola League One. He said: "If I can make a contribution I will play.
"However, if I'm not right I won't push myself. I took the painkiller for my sore Achilles as I felt I could still perform on the pitch.
"The downside was that with 20 minutes to go I ended up straining my groin. That's a common injury for goalkeepers to get, with all the kicking we have to do, and at the moment I don't know if I'll be in contention for the Walsall match on Saturday."
