The £17,000 radio frequency lesioning machine will be used at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, for sufferers of severe lower back pain.
The equipment was presented to the chronic pain service department by the WRVS tea bar staff and the Broomfield League of Friends which raised the money to pay for it. Buying a machine had been put in the business plan for the last seven years but funds had not been available from the Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust.
