Dermot O'Leary, presenter of such programmes as Big Brother's Little Brother and SAS: Are You Tough Enough?, was on hand to give advice to students at a special media day at Colchester Sixth Form College.
He was one of five former students, all working in the media, who went to talk about their chosen careers and set some practical tasks.
They included Evening Gazette reporter Neil Jones, Essex County Standard reporter Robert Mead, television producer Catherine Gildea and Kate Addy who works in public relations.
