A new Manningtree-based group is celebrating after being awarded lottery funding.

East Anglian Community Projects is getting a grant of up to £11,160 from the Local Heritage Initiative (LHI) to make a film on The Escaped Nun.

Madge Moult escaped from St Mary's Convent at East Bergholt on February 15, 1909, and made good her getaway via Manningtree station.

Spokesman Robin Finch said filming had now begun and apart from the professional film crew, everyone else, including the actors, were volunteers.

Dark uniforms and black caps are needed for the railway scene and anyone who can loan any of these is asked to contact Mr Finch as soon as possible on 01206 396236.
