Detectives are investigating the 'ferocious' attack of two young men as they walked through Chelmsford's Central Park in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 19-year-old friends were returning home after a night out when they were attacked by three mystery assailants who punched them to the ground and kicked them in the heads before robbing them.

The robbers made off with their mobile phones and wallets, containing a small amount of cash, leaving their victims barely able to walk to Chelmsford police station to report the attack.

The two victims later went to Broomfield Hospital for treatment to cuts and bruises to their heads.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "This was a ferocious attack on two young men who were robbed of cash and their mobile phones as they walked through Central Park."

The robbers were all white, with the first aged 20 or 21 about 6 ft tall, of medium build, with short blonde spiky hair. He wore a white or light coloured jumper, dark blue jeans and Reebok trainers.

The second man was aged 19 to 20, 5 ft 6 or 7 ins tall and of stocky build. He had black spiky hair and was wearing a black or blue top, possibly hooded, and blue jeans.

The last man was of medium height and wore a black or blue jumper and blue jeans.

Anyone who may have information on this incident, which occurred at around 3am on October 2, should contact Det Con Dave Pawsey of CID at Chelmsford police station on 01245 491212.
