Great Wakering Rovers produced one of their best performances of the season, but still lost out 1-0 against Southern Division One East leaders Fisher Athletic.
But they were sentenced to another home defeat - they are yet to win at Burroughs Park this term - when Steve Watts headed home a Chris Piper left-wing corner after 76 minutes.
Wakering created the better first-half chances and, after eight minutes, Lee Guiver took advantage of sloppy defending to shoot in an effort which Jerome John, on Rovers' books at the end of last season, saved.
Five minutes later young striker Tom Dosser fired in a volley that was deflected over the bar and into the car park, where the ball smashed the windscreen of one of the 145-strong crowds' car.
Watts showed his strength early in the second-half when he forced Wakering goalkeeper James Marrable, making his home debut since his switch from East Thurrock, to save.
On the 65 minute mark teenager Dosser broke down the left and threaded a perfect ball through to Matt Reade, whose shot was just wide of the mark.
Then came the winning goal for a Fisher side who, with ex-Southend United defender Mark Warren in their side.
And they could eventually have doubled their triumph with Marrable pushing Steve McNamara's well-struck effort over the bar 10 minutes from time.
