Police are advising revellers to take care on their way home and are appealing for witnesses to a "ferocious" attack on two teenagers.
The two friends, both aged 19, were on their way home from a night out in Chelmsford town centre when three men attacked them.
A police spokesman said the young men were punched to the ground, kicked in the head and robbed of their mobile telephones and wallets, which contained a small amount of cash.
The attack took place in Chelmsford's Central Park, between 2am and 3am.
Det Insp Nigel Cockrell said: "We would advise people not to walk alone through the park in the dark, but not to avoid the area. They should stick to well lit areas."
