A new magistrates court in Chelmsford could be set to provide the town with a building of civic pride.
The new courthouse, which is planned for New Street in the town centre, would serve thousands of people each year and would replace the existing courthouse service in Shire Hall.
It would comprise four magistrates' courts, one youth and family court and one crown court, together with administrative accommodation and secure parking.
The proposal has been recommended for approval as it offers an opportunity to address current deficiencies in the court service facilities, will be well situated and should produce a building of civic pride.
One of a number of projects to upgrade the court service for Essex, it will go before the planning committee at a meeting on Tuesday.
