The head and shoulders of what could become one of Maldon's future tourist attractions, have been cast in bronze.
Earldorman Byrhtnoth
A statue of Earldorman Byrhtnoth, the town's famous Anglo-Saxon warrior slain by Vikings at the Battle of Maldon in 991AD, is being crafted by mid-Essex sculptor John Doubleday.
On Wednesday, Mr Doubleday, of Great Totham, invited members from the Battle of Maldon Monument Working Group to see the first bronze casting at the Art Founders in Braintree, where it is being made.
When finished, the sculpture will be available for all to see at Maldon's Promenade Extension. It will be nine feet tall and stand more than twice that height when placed on a column.
