Mystery still surrounds the last moments of a man who died after a night out.

Lloyd Brown, 34, of Broad Road, Bocking, was found dead by his friend after staying at his home for the night on March 21.

A post-mortem examination carried out following Mr Brown's death showed he had 165mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of urine. The legal driving limit is 107mcgs.

It found the cause of death was drug poisoning and that he also had a heart condition, which was not the main cause of death.

It also showed there was a substantial quantity of morphine in his system and a slight indication of cocaine.

An inquest at Chelmsford Coroners' Court, yesterday heard how Mr Brown had been in The Albert pub, Albert Road, Witham, since about 6.30pm.

Anthony Archer, said he was walking past the pub at about midnight when he saw him and invited him back to his house. Mr Brown fell asleep in the living room at Easton Road, Witham, and Mr Archer went to his own room.

Mr Archer said at about 6am he got up and heard Mr Brown snoring. He then went back to bed until 9am when he tried to get him up for a cup of coffee and found him dead.

He said he couldn't say when Mr Brown had taken any drugs. Coronor Caroline Beasley-Murray recorded an open verdict.
