Wasps descended on Colchester with a particular sting in their tails this year.

This is one of hundreds of treated nests which saw a sharp rise in the flying pests.
Colchester Council pest controllers dealt with 494 nests this year, compared with last year's 211. But Michael and Jean Berry, of Boxted, off Straight Road, called on a friend to rid their home of the danger of the 16ins by 20ins nest in their loft.
The council's pest control team leader, Colin Rand, said: "It's been the busiest year we've had in four years. We would advise people not to deal with nests themselves, especially in confined spaces."
