Ipswich Witches' Elite League title dreams are over after the club lost out to Wolverhampton in the play-off semi final.
To defeat the Midlands club, in a one-off meeting at their Monmore Green circuit, was always going to be a difficult task, but to their credit the Witches battled for every point and effectively lost out in the end by losing a coin toss.
There were never more than six points separating the two sides.
After 15 pulsating races the two sides were tied on 45 points and a sudden death race-off was needed to find a winner.
Mikael Max, a legend at the club, was the obvious choice to represent the home side, while after some discussion Witches team manager Mike Smillie opted for Danish star Hans Andersen, over Skipper Scott Nicholls, to lead the charge for the visitors.
However, Smillie then lost the coin toss for gate positions and Wolves team manager Peter Adams immediately declared that his man would be going off the favoured inside, from where he was to make no mistakes, despite the huge efforts of Andersen to overhaul his rival.
