WESTCLIFF Lawn tasted double Essex League success with their ladies' and men's teams.
The ladies triumphed in Division One after their nearest rivals, Billericay, failed to secure a large enough winning margin in their final match to overhaul the London Road club.
And Lawn have local rivals Westcliff Hard to thank for that. The Hardcourts' line-up of Fiona Stone, Anna Burton, Sue Hookway, Steffi Rodrigues, Sue Blackshaw and Alice Dickens battled hard before losing 10-8 to Billericay.
Lawn's other success saw their team crowned Men's Division Three champions. Westcliff Lawn's ladies' second team fought out a 9-9 Essex Division Two draw with Theydon Bois thanks to Hazel Wynn, Judith Ward, Nicola Hopkins, Lynn May, Cally Flinders and Louisa Da Souza.
Essex's Men's Division Three produced mixed results for south-east Essex clubs. Westcliff Lawn II's Iain McDonald, Gary Reynolds, Taifar Rahman, Blaise Walton, Neil Warren and Martin Liu defeated Linkside 15-3.
But Hockley's Kevin Eley, Gary McDonald, Paul Finch, James Caldon, Steve Gibson and David Mason lost 7-11 to Frinton in a close match.
Veterans action saw Westcliff Lawn's ladies' first team of Vanessa Powell, Lynn May, Hazel Wynn and Sarah O'Sullivan see off Cranston Park 8-0 in Essex Division One.
And Westcliff Hard's veteran men's seconds of Terry Taylor, Dave Blunt, Andy Cox and Steve Flemming defeated Buckhurst Hill 6-2 in Essex Division Two.
Great Baddow claimed the Essex Over-55 championship by defeating Thorpe Bay 6-2. Thorpe were represented by Keith Palmer, Geoff Burdett, Tim Padbury and John Blackman.
Clive Ripon, Peter Reddington, John Adams and Tony Pratt made up the winning Great Baddow team.
