The landscape in Monkwick is now more visually pleasing, thanks to a £1.3 million project by an energy company to replace unsightly overhead power lines.

Workmen from EDF Energy pulled down the last of nine towers that supported the overhead power lines, which are being replaced with new underground electricity cables.

Alan Feakins, EDF Energy director of asset management, said: "As an environmentally-aware company, we are pleased to be able to improve the local landscape by taking down these overhead lines.

"This project will not only have a positive impact on the environment, but will also increase the security of power supplies for local customers for years to come."
