Villagers have come out fighting in a bid to save their village pub's beer garden.
Save our pub - village resident Tony Askew
More than 50 people turned out last night to an extraordinary meeting of Great Oakley Parish Council.
They opposed an application, made by the former landlord Nigel Weall, to build a house on the site of stables next to the Maybush Inn, the only pub left in the village.
Mr Weall, who was not at the meeting, sold the pub earlier this year but still owns the adjoining land and has applied for permission to build the house.
The council will write a letter to Tendring Council urging it to turn down the application.
Mr Lawrence also asked anyone else with concerns to write their own objection. The final decision will be made by a planning officer from the council.
