Moat Housing Group is offering Essex police officers generous sums towards owning their own homes.
Under the Government's key worker living scheme, Moat Housing, based in Heybridge, is offering interest-free loans up to £50,000 for officers seeking homes on the open market.
The scheme targets officers throughout Essex - but the would-be buyers must settle within 35 miles of the Grays, Basildon or Harlow divisional headquarters, said Moat spokesman Marilyn DiCara.
However, Essex Police Federation said the current staffing shortage was not just about recruiting for less popular postings, such as Grays, Basildon or Harlow.
Any Essex police officer seeking help with house-buying can call Moat Housing Group's home ownership hotline on 07002 662846 or log on to www.moat.co.uk
