Wayne Brown believes Colchester United can go a long way towards achieving promotion from League One if they grind out more results like the one at Oldham Athletic.
The spirited U's battled back from a goal down and a poor first-half performance to force a 1-1 draw - their first of the season - against the Latics at Boundary Park on Saturday.
And skipper Brown said: "It's more results like this, picking up points when we're not playing well, that is going to keep us in the top six and in the promotion race.
"This game was all about us digging in and putting ourselves about after a very disappointing first half.
"The gaffer put a rocket up our backsides at half-time. We suddenly started to pick out the better ball, rose to the challenge and answered the supporters' doubts by hitting back after we'd gone a goal down."
Teenage full-back Halford netted the U's equaliser 11 minutes into the second half.
