A fire safety scheme is being launched at a Clacton caravan park where a man died earlier this month.
Firefighters plan to write to residents at Meadow View Park, Little Clacton, asking if they would like their homes to be inspected.
On September 11, 84-year-old John Jones died after a fire started in his mobile home, which was not fitted with a smoke alarm.
Firefighters said at the time that if he had had a smoke detector, it would have gone off before the bedroom of his home was filled with smoke.
Community safety liaison officer Pete Eyre said the caravan park had been chosen for a pilot of the fire safety scheme.
Firefighters will write to residents and ask if they want their home checked to see how safe it is.
They will offer advice about what could be done to improve fire safety there.
The scheme will quickly be extended to other areas of Clacton and Dovercourt.
