Residents want to know what they can do to stop heavy goods vehicles using their road because of the cracks which are now appearing.
Oakmead Road, Point Clear, is an unadopted road which residents have to maintain themselves. Resident Lewis Salvoni, 75, said a few years ago the residents repaired the road and got it up to standard.
But he said since then the road has started to break up again after heavy lorries have used the road.
"There are big cracks and dips in the road. It's dangerous for pedestrians and everyone using the road," Mr Salvoni said.
He said he went to St Osyth Parish Council to ask what could be done. The parish council has put the subject on the agenda to be discussed at its next meeting.
A spokeswoman for Essex County Council, advised Mr Salvoni and the other residents to check with the deeds of their homes or the Land Registry to see where they stand.
