They have now got about 50 kittens to take care of, with as many as 20 coming from one home. Some are having to be hand-reared by staff, requiring a lot of time and attention.
Rebecca Kenny, of the Danaher centre in Wethersfield, said: "They have been coming in over the last few weeks.
"We seem to be having a second wave of kittens, and it is really quite unusual for this time of year."
She said they were getting the cats in because their owners could not cope with so many.
