Joseph Topliss, of St Peter's Avenue, Maldon, received just cuts and bruises after being in collision with the car when he stepped out into London Road, outside the police station, at shortly after 3.30pm.
His mother, Karen, says she knows her son has been lucky but added: "Another crossing is certainly needed in London Road. There is a lollipop person in the road but not where my son crossed.
"I phoned up the schools and told them to talk to their children about road safety as this is not the first time it has happened during the last few weeks.
"We need to stop someone else being knocked over as Joseph has been a lucky boy."
Rodney Bass, cabinet member for Essex County Council highways and transportation, said provision for a better junction outside the Police Station is being looked into.
