A barn on the site of a business could soon be converted into a home, thanks to the support of Stisted parish council.
John Clark, of Stisted parish council's planning committee, successfully opposed Braintree council's officers' recommendation to refuse planning permission.
Addressing Braintree area committee, he said: "I realise it is an unusual thing for a parish council to object to a refusal but this building is isolated from the village."
The agricultural buildings house an aircraft parts business. The owner wants to live on the site to prevent vandalism to his equipment.
The application will now go before the council's regulatory committee for a decision after members voted against their officers' recommendations.
