Youngsters are showing no signs of tiring of bright new play equipment installed by Rochford District Council at sites across the area.
Contractors worked non-stop to finish a £100,000 refurbishment programme of work at six of the district's playspaces in time for the summer holidays, and children from three to 18 have been making full use of them.
Sites in the programme were Fairview, the Grove Woods and St John Fisher playing fields, in Rayleigh, and playspaces in Great Wakering High Street, Canewdon and Ashingdon.
The newly installed play equipment is in most part suitable for use by people with disabilities and, together with new surfacing, it provides a brighter, more appealing, safer environment for youngsters.
Derrick Stansby, chairman of the playspace sub-committee, which looks at all aspects of provision and maintenance of facilities, said: "Work was hampered on occasion by wet weather earlier in the summer, but we were determined that youngsters should have the upgraded play facilities in time for the holidays."
