Shoppers have benefited from free parking in a Braintree car park after ticket machines were broken into for the second time in a month.
Five of the eight machines in the George Yard multi-storey car park were broken into some time between 7.30pm on Sunday, and 6.30am on Monday, and cash stolen from them.
Simon Taylor, community operations manager for Braintree Council, which owns the car park, said yesterday: "Hopefully, the machines will be repaired by the end of the day.
"We are taking measures with the police to make sure this doesn't happen again."
Braintree Council has now lost two days of takings from the three-storey car park as well as the money which was in the machines when they were burgled.
Mr Taylor was unable to say how much this was or how much the machines would cost to repair each time they are attacked by thieves.
