Colchester's bid to host a prestigious cancer treatment centre is "superior", according to an expert.
Prof Chris Booth, who is heading the joint bid from Colchester and Chelmsford to have the unit for urological cancer services in the town, has said the bid is superior to that of Ipswich, and that Ipswich was only recommended through a flawed process.
His claims were backed up at a meeting of the finance and audit scrutiny panel, where councillors had called in Robert Davidson's decision to back Ipswich's bid.
The portfolio holder for regeneration and partnerships agreed that he would switch his allegiance to Colchester if it was proved the people of the town would benefit.
Mr Davidson said he had just gone on recommendations presented to him and was willing to look at the fresh findings and amend his decision to support the decision of Colchester Primary Care Trust, which should be announced soon.
