Work on resurfacing the A12 at Kelvedon to Marks Tey has begun.
The £9m job, which started yesterday, will mean delays and lane restrictions until December, warned the Highways Agency .
Two lanes will be open in each direction during the day, and a contra-flow system will operate round the clock with a 40mph speed limit.
The road will be reduced to one lane most nights.
The job will create a quieter surface, new and bigger lay-bys, better drains and a hard strip on both sides of the carriageway.
