Congregation members are flocking back to a church which has just opened again following a £90,000 revamp.
St Cedd's Church, in Iceni Way, Shrub End, Colchester, has been closed for the past six months while workmen have carried out the improvements
The Rev Sharon Miles, assistant curate for the parish of All Saints', which St Cedd's falls under, said the the church had been built in 1955.
It had been constructed with only basic facilities and had not had any major overhaul in nearly half a century it has been open.
The church now boasts central heating, disabled toilets and a new kitchen area, after the old one was gutted.
A special service of thanks for the renovation is being held at the church tonight, led by the Bishop of Colchester.
